Qualifying couldn't be easier. A BP Client is someone needing the services of a Seasoned Bruin Professional. There is no registration required and no approval process. To qualify to become a BP Member, candidates are to be seasoned professionals or well established in a business (minimum seven(7) years in your profession), in which their role is to generate new business or serve as a key advisor delegating business assignments to third parties. The Member candidate must also meet one of these criteria: obtained a degree from UCLA, attended UCLA for a minimum of two years, taught as a faculty member at UCLA. BP applications are subject to review by the BP Directors. BP is a UCLA Alumni Club and all BP Members are required to maintain an active UCLA Alumni Association.
MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of Bruin Professionals ('BP') is to assemble a diverse group of UCLA Alumni who are well established in a profession or business and are willing to make a commitment to attend BP meetings. BP Members will have the opportunity through an organized format to develop relationships and expand their business activities by sharing referrals, resources, information, ideas and advice. BP will develop Bruin synergy and establish a venue through which Professional Alumni can become actively associated with UCLA and promote new business leads.
MEETINGS • BP conducts numerous Chapter meetings each month. Please visit the BP website at www.bruinprofessionals.com or dates and meeting locations. Each meeting begins with one-half hour of open networking during which a continental breakfast is served. General Meeting format: Mission statement read, Chapter Leader's introduction and greeting to BP guests, announcement of BP events and a presentation, which may include a guest speaker. Then each attendee is given an opportunity for a short professional introduction (no sales pitches), followed by the BP Exchange (needs, deals and testimonials) and a networking technique exercise. Finally, business card lists are distributed with attendees randomly divided into groups of approximately three (3) to four (4) individuals. Each small group schedules a BP “Mini” meeting during the next month (usually for Breakfast or Lunch) to provide BP Members the opportunity to get better acquainted with each other, both professionally and personally.
ATTENDANCE • Attendance is critical for building effective BP Chapters. Repetitive meetings with your fellow BP Members will establish familiar and comfortable relationships, which are the foundation of successful networking. Attending the small BP focus sessions is a significant part of the process to develop key network contacts. Always notify other BP Members if you are unable to attend a scheduled meeting.
BECOMING A BP MEMBER • To qualify to become a BP Member, candidates must be seasoned professionals who are well established in a business, which may be reflected by a minimum of five (5) years of experience in your profession. The candidate must maintain an active UCLA Alumni Association Annual or Life Membership and demonstrate a strong affiliation with UCLA, which may be reflected by having obtained a degree from the University, attended UCLA for a minimum of two (2) years full time, completed a professional certification through UCLA Extension or other University entities that are consistent with BP's mission, served as a faculty or staff member at the University, and/or being actively engaged with the University and its mission. The BP Membership Committee reviews all applications, and may decline membership to any applicant, who, in the Committee's discretion, may not benefit from participation in BP and may not benefit BP by being a member. Further, BP Members must complete their personal BP Professional Profile and post a compliant professional portrait on the BP website.
ANNUAL DUES AND RENEWALS • The annual BP Dues for 2016 are $425; renewal dues paid after 60 days shall be subject to a $25 late penalty fee. BP Chapter meetings involve an additional charge, usually in the $5-10 range, and there are separate charges for large events held at restaurants, on campus, or at other venues. Guests are permitted to attend up to two (2) BP meetings to determine whether BP is a good fit for them. Thereafter, a $25 guest fee may be assessed to attend each additional meeting up to a maximum of five (5) meetings, at which point continued attendance requires membership in the organization. ALL BP Members are required to maintain active UCLA Alumni Association membership.
ACCOUNTABILITY; CONFIDENTIALITY • BP Members should be courteous and responsive to one another. All calls should be promptly returned and follow-up to each referral is expected. The content and disclosures at BP meetings and BP Mini meetings are to be respected with proper business judgment.
BENEFITS • Benefits include participation at all BP Chapter meetings and BP Events, BP Member listing on the BP Website and access to the on-line BP Exchange and BP postings.
MEMBER CONDITIONS • To be a Member in good standing, one must (i) be a member of the UCLA Alumni Association; (ii) submit to BP a signed application, payment of dues and completed questionnaire; (iii) execute and date agreement with BP Rules and Regulations as set forth; and (iv) agree to comply with such requirements as may be established by BP from time to time. Members must also be in good standing within their professional community and maintain ethical standards. BP Directors reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to dismiss a BP Member for violation of BP Rules and Regulations without refunding dues.
